Listen to our information podcast about reforms in Ontario’s auto insurance.
Each year Ontarians renew their auto insurance but have limited choice in matching their coverage to their lifestyle. You want auto insurance that benefits you the most when you need it.
The Ontario government introduced changes to automobile insurance which means you will have more choice and flexibility to ensure your coverage best suits your needs.
These changes will take effect on September 1, 2010 for new policies and for renewing customers, at their next renewal after September 1st.
What You Need to Do
When you receive your policy renewal, September 1, 2010, or later, review your coverage and contact your insurance advisor to discuss any changes you wish to make. If you want to make changes prior to your renewal date, you can do so once the reforms come into effect September 1, 2010.
To help you understand how the auto insurance changes will affect your policy, here are some frequently asked questions:
- If I previously purchased additional benefits, then what happens at my renewal?
The additional optional benefits in your current policy will not be affected by the changes and will not change at renewal unless you decide to change them.
- What do these changes mean to my premium?
Your premium depends on the level of coverage you feel you need to protect yourself and your family. Pricing will vary based on the benefits you purchase.
- How do these reforms benefit me if I’m in an accident?
These benefits provide coverage to you and your family. No matter who caused the accident, you have access to accident benefits to help you with your recovery. The changes are intended to make it easier for you to get the benefits you need when you need them most.
